What's in the box: A volume usually has three or four small batch mezcals, such as espadín, ensamble or pechuga, each credited to a named producer.
Agave Mixtape, run by Pueblo de Sabor, LLC, is less a monthly subscription than a series of numbered releases built around small batch agave spirits, mostly mezcal. Each volume groups a few bottles and names the maker of each one. Volume 10, for example, featured PUNTAS bottlings from Victor Ramos, Ageo Cortes, Javier Barranca and Lalo Ángeles. The project started during the pandemic to get mezcal to drinkers while bars were closed and distributors were wary of new products. That origin still shows in its focus on hard to find bottles from individual producers. If you want rum, you will not find it here, and the lineup leans toward mezcal rather than mainstream tequila. The bigger problem is availability. The site says it is sold out. The latest release listed is Volume 10, which came out in November 2023, and the new mixtape it promised for 2025 is not on the site. For now, all you can do is join the mailing list. The site does not give prices, shipping areas or a release schedule. If you love mezcal and don't mind waiting, signing up costs nothing. If you want a box that arrives on a reliable schedule, look elsewhere.
