What's in the box: Expect bags of roasted single origin African coffee, with whole bean or ground options depending on what you order.
Bean There Coffee Company was founded in 2005 and says it is South Africa's first roaster of Fairtrade certified coffee. Its range is built around African single origins: Ethiopia, Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, the DR Congo and Uganda, plus an Ethiopian decaf. Bags start at around R140 to R160 depending on origin. The company says it pays farmers directly, which matters if you care where your money goes. The shop also sells grinders, filter gear, accessories and manual and bean to cup espresso machines, so you can kit out a home setup in one place. If you want a true subscription box, though, the site's main pages focus on one-off purchases. It does not clearly explain recurring plans, delivery frequency, pausing or how coffees are chosen. Shoppers after a curated monthly surprise with rotating roasters and tasting cards should look elsewhere. If you want dependable, ethically sourced African coffee from one roaster and are happy to reorder regularly, or to ask the company about a plan directly, Bean There is a solid choice. Shipping within South Africa is free on orders of R650 or more, and you can arrange international delivery by emailing the company.
