Box of Dread

Moved. The old site now redirects to store.dreadcentral.com. Dread Central's horror box; no recent confirmation of operations or closure notice was found.

What's in the box: When it ran, a box typically held horror themed merchandise such as collectibles, apparel and other fan items tied to the genre.

Box of Dread is not currently operating as a subscription box: boxofdread.com now redirects to the Dread Central online store, and there is no way to subscribe. Dread Central, a horror news and reviews site founded in 2006, ran Box of Dread as a recurring horror box for fans in the US. When it was active, each shipment centered on horror fandom, with themed merchandise, collectibles and other genre items for people who follow horror films closely. The store that has replaced it sells individual Blu-ray releases from Dread Central's own distribution label, DREAD, along with some exclusive merchandise. Titles include The Jester, Satanic Hispanics, Tales of Halloween and Ed Kemper. The store does not mention the box, its plans, or what happened to existing subscriptions, and no clear closure announcement is easy to find. If you were a past subscriber with a question about an old order, contacting Dread Central directly is the sensible step. If you just want horror films, the store still sells individual items, but that is not the same as a curated recurring box. We do not recommend trying to sign up for Box of Dread, because right now there is nothing to sign up for.
