What's in the box: Depending on the program, you get your own custom wine made in small lots, a virtual blending kit that yields two bottles of your personal blend, or wine club shipments of small-production Judd's Hill wines.
Judd's Hill MicroCrush is the custom winemaking arm of Judd's Hill, a family owned and family run winery in the Napa Valley. Rather than shipping a recurring box, MicroCrush lets you make your own hand-crafted wine with lots as small as a single barrel, so you avoid the cost and overhead of owning a winery. The family says it has more than 25 years of custom crush experience, and Food & Wine Magazine has called it 'THE place for custom winemaking in Napa Valley.' If you want something you can do from home, the winery also offers a Virtual Bottle Blending Day Camp. A wine educator leads you over Zoom, and each kit includes two bottles of your personal blend, sent separately. The in-person Bottle Blending Day Camp has you build a Bordeaux-style blend from barrel samples of four red varietals. There is also a traditional wine club that gives members first access to small-production wines. The site does not state pricing, which states it ships to, or how often club shipments arrive, so ask before committing. Wine shipping is restricted by state law, and buyers must be 21 or older. This is a serious, hands-on option for aspiring winemakers, but it is a service more than a classic subscription box.
