What's in the box: When it operated, each box held portioned ingredients and recipe instructions for cooking a set of meals at home.
Kochzauber is no longer operating. The German meal kit service closed on March 8, 2019, and its website no longer loads. Lidl bought the company in 2015 and later decided to shut the service down, so you cannot order a box today. When it ran, Kochzauber worked like other recipe box services of its time. Customers in Germany received deliveries of ingredients portioned for a set of recipes, along with instructions for cooking each meal at home. The idea was to save time on meal planning and grocery shopping and to cut food waste, since you only got what each recipe called for. Backing from a major supermarket chain gave it more resources than many small startups had. That ownership also tied its future to Lidl's priorities, and the retailer ended the service about four years after buying it. Details such as plans, menu sizes and delivery areas can no longer be confirmed. If you want a meal kit in Germany, choose a service that is running now. Think of Kochzauber as part of the market's history, not as an option, and do not expect old accounts, vouchers or gift codes to work.
