What's in the box: One luxury designer handbag at a time, picked by you from the app, which you can swap for another whenever you like.
Laxus is a Japanese rental service that lets you borrow designer handbags for a fixed monthly fee. You can swap bags as often as you like. The brand list has around 60 luxury labels, including Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Hermès and Dior, and the site says it stocks tens of thousands of bags. Everything runs through an app, which is free to download and sign up for. The site says return shipping is included and that damage coverage comes with the plan, which matters when the bag on your arm costs more than a year of fees. Delivery can arrive as soon as the next day. Laxus has been around since 2015 and is run by Laxus Technologies, which is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Growth market. It is also a full member of the AACD, an industry group in Japan that works against counterfeit goods. Those are useful signs of trust if you worry about authenticity. The main limitation is that the service and its app are clearly built for the Japanese market. Shoppers outside Japan should not expect to be able to use it. Since this is a rental, you never own anything, so heavy users may want to compare long-term costs against buying.
