Magnolia Record Club

What's in the box: Each month brings one vinyl record chosen by the store as its Record of the Month, often in an exclusive or limited color pressing.

Magnolia Record Club is the monthly vinyl subscription run by Magnolia Record Store, an online shop that focuses on exclusive and limited color variants. The club is built around a Record of the Month, and the current pick is Judah & the Lion's I Am A Prism. The shop's main categories are pop and Americana, so expect picks of easy-to-like mainstream and roots music rather than obscure or experimental records. Besides the club, the store sells single records, many of them colored pressings such as red swirl or blue marble, along with pre-orders and a gift section. There is also a loyalty program, a refer-a-friend option, a text line and a community group, so the shop seems to be working to build a fan base around its picks. The homepage does not give the club's price, say whether anything comes with the record, or explain how skipping a month works. A cancellation policy and a shipping policy are linked at the bottom of the site, and both are worth reading before you join. If you sign up for emails, you get 15% off your first purchase. If your taste fits the pop and Americana focus, this looks like a simple, solid option, but the lack of upfront detail on club terms keeps the score down.
