Mr B's Reading Spa

What's in the box: Each delivery is a book picked by Mr B's booksellers to suit the reader, sent to your door.

Mr B's is an independent bookshop in Bath with a long reputation for personal recommendations, and its subscriptions bring that approach to your letterbox. The main offer is Mr B's Reading Subscriptions, which promise hand-picked books delivered to your door, chosen by the shop's own booksellers rather than an algorithm. Crime fans get their own option called The Crime Syndicate. The site also runs a Recommendation Station, where you answer three questions about your tastes and recent reads and the team replies with suggestions. That shows how personal the picks are meant to be. Beyond subscriptions, the shop publishes monthly lists such as the Bookseller's Dozen and a selection of signed and dedicated editions. It also has articles, podcasts and a busy events programme with visiting authors in Bath. All of this suggests a team that reads widely and takes curation seriously. The homepage does not give prices, plan lengths, delivery costs or international shipping details, so check the subscription pages carefully before you commit. The site also leans heavily on gifting, which suits someone buying a present more than someone who wants to fine-tune a monthly plan. If you want a real bookseller's judgement and are happy to be surprised, it is one of the more characterful choices in the UK.
