Ownership. Kroger acquired Murray's Cheese in February 2017, and Murray's still runs its monthly cheese clubs.
What's in the box: Each month brings a selection of specialty cheeses picked by Murray's, and the shop's wider range covers cow, sheep, raw milk and cave aged styles.
Murray's Cheese is a well-known New York cheese shop that started in Greenwich Village in 1940. Kroger has owned it since February 2017. Its monthly cheese clubs are still one of the main things it sells online. The clubs sit in the site's top menu next to classes, catering and wholesale, so they look like a core product. The wider catalog shows what the shop does well: aged Comté, raw milk Gruyère, truffle brie, a range of cheddars and its own Cave Aged Reserve line, which Murray's says is made together with artisan creameries. Each cheese listing gives the milk type, whether it is pasteurized and how long it was aged. That detail is useful for subscribers who want to learn about what they are eating. Right now the homepage is mostly fall promotions, seasonal boards and a 12 Days countdown gift. It does not show club prices, shipping terms or how many cheeses arrive each month, so check the club pages before you sign up. Cheese is perishable, so someone may need to be home when a box arrives. Even under Kroger, the site still reads like a specialist shop. Some buyers will still prefer an independent seller. Overall, this is a solid choice from a recognized name in American cheese retail.
