Ownership. Mars acquired PrettyLitter, with the deal reported by Bloomberg in September 2021, and the subscription still operates.

What's in the box: Each delivery contains a bag of PrettyLitter silica crystal litter in your chosen variety, either a 6lb non-clumping bag or a 10lb clumping bag.

PrettyLitter is a silica crystal cat litter sold on a recurring subscription. Its main selling point is crystals that change color to flag possible health issues. According to the company, the litter can turn blue to show abnormal alkalinity, orange for acidity, or red for the presence of blood, while dark yellow or olive green suggests urine in a typical range. That can be a useful early prompt to call a vet, since cats often hide illness, but it is a screening signal, not a diagnosis. The range is simple: Original (unscented), Lotus Blend and Calm Aloe, all non-clumping 6lb bags at $24, plus a 10lb unscented clumping option at $29.99. The company claims low dust, strong odor control, and that its lightweight crystals last up to twice as long as clumping clay. Non-clumping crystals need a different routine than clay. Urine is absorbed rather than scooped, so you remove solids, stir, and replace the whole box periodically. Some cats also dislike the feel of crystals underfoot. PrettyLitter has been owned by Mars since a 2021 acquisition and continues to operate in the US. For owners of cats with a history of urinary problems, it is a reasonable tool, as long as it supplements regular vet care rather than replacing it.
