Closed. The website says the service has closed. Founded in 2014; the latest box coverage found dates from April 2019, and no closure notice was found.
What's in the box: When it operated, each box held a selection of Japanese snacks from local stores across Japan, often tied to a particular region.
Snakku has closed and is no longer accepting orders, so there is nothing to subscribe to. A farewell message on its site says the Coronavirus pandemic forced the decision. Many of the small local snack shops it bought from in Japan shut down, and ongoing supply chain problems and rising costs hurt both Snakku and the shops that stayed open. When it was running, Snakku was a subscription box of authentic Japanese snacks, started in 2014 and sold mainly to US customers. It focused on treats from local stores across Japan rather than the mass market candy found in many snack boxes. It also built content around specific regions, such as Hokkaido, to introduce subscribers to different parts of the country. Boxes were shipped from Japan through Japan Post. Early in the pandemic the company pushed every subscription back by a month while it waited for shipping to resume, and it later closed. The founder, Shigeki, says the team is working on a new project at madewithine.com. He also invites former customers to email him for Japan travel tips or snack recommendations. If you want a regional Japanese snack box today, you will need to look elsewhere, because Snakku cannot take new subscriptions or renew old ones.
