What's in the box: There is no fixed box: members choose their own Te Mata wines from the Estate and Showcase ranges and get member pricing and offers.

Te Mata Estate is one of New Zealand's best known wineries. It is a family-owned Hawke's Bay producer founded in 1896 and is famous for Coleraine, its Bordeaux-style red. The Te Mata Club is less a subscription box than a free membership. Joining costs nothing and gets you new release and winery news, special promotional offers, event invitations and a 10% discount on current-release Te Mata wines. That discount does not apply to Coleraine or to promotional packs, which is a shame because Coleraine is the wine most people come for. The site does not describe scheduled shipments, curated cases or a set delivery frequency for the club. If you want a box that arrives automatically every quarter, this may not be it. What you do get is direct access to a respected cellar. The Estate range covers everyday drinking, and the Showcase wines, such as Coleraine, Bullnose, Awatea and Elston, are made for cellaring. Te Mata also offers international shipping, digital gift cards and limited selections suited to gifting, plus tasting experiences at its Havelock North cellar door. If you already buy Te Mata a few times a year, joining is an easy decision because there is no fee. If you want a hands-off wine discovery service, a dedicated wine subscription will suit you better.
