The Revolver Club

What's in the box: There is no fixed box; members buy the records and gear they choose at a tiered discount, with early access to new arrivals.

The Revolver Club is an Indian music and audio retailer, not a typical subscription box. It sells new and pre-owned vinyl records in English and Hindi, plus CDs, turntables, hi-fi speakers, home theatre equipment, DJ gear, watches and film photography supplies. The closest thing it has to a subscription is the Certified Vinylhead membership. The site says members get up to a lifetime 15% discount, depending on their tier, and 24-hour early access to new arrivals. The site does not describe a monthly shipment of curated records, so shoppers who want a surprise record at the door should look elsewhere. The store's biggest strength is its range. The catalogue covers rock, pop, jazz, hip-hop, Bollywood, Indian classical, soul, folk, soundtracks, classical and electronic music, and many titles are marked Quick Ship. Some popular records were out of stock. Newcomers can buy turntable and speaker bundles. The store also offers gear consultations and a record request service, which helps if you are after a pressing it does not carry. It also runs community events and a YouTube channel. The site does not say what the membership costs or how you move up a tier, so check those details before you join. For a buyer in India who already purchases records often, the membership could pay for itself. It is a poor fit for anyone who wants a hands-off box.
