What's in the box: When it operated, members chose a rotating selection of borrowed clothing pieces through the app, wore them and returned them for new picks.
YCloset is no longer operating. The Chinese clothing rental service took its last orders and shut down in July 2021, so you cannot subscribe to it today. When it ran, YCloset was an app-based membership aimed mainly at women in China. Members borrowed clothes from a shared wardrobe instead of buying them. They picked pieces in the app, wore them, sent them back and chose new ones, while the company cleaned items between renters. The idea fit the sustainable fashion goal of getting more wear out of each garment and cutting down on impulse buys. YCloset was backed by Alibaba and was one of the better known names in China's clothing rental boom, but the business model proved hard to sustain. The ycloset.com address now leads to an unrelated Korean online shop called 청년옷장. It sells casual menswear such as shirts, knitwear, cardigans and jackets to buy outright. That shop has no connection to the old rental service and offers no subscription. Old YCloset accounts, plans and orders no longer exist, so if you want a clothing rental membership, look for a service that is active in your region.
