What's in the box: A box typically holds at least 4 to 5 kg of seasonal organic vegetables or fruit, either Danish grown or made up of surplus stock.
Aarstiderne is a long-running Danish organic grocery service. It is best known for meal kits, but its fruit and vegetable boxes are worth considering on their own. The DanskGrøntKasse holds at least 4 kg of seasonal organic vegetables, all from Danish suppliers, and costs 305 kr. The two surplus boxes are the more unusual choice. The OverskudsFrugtKasse has at least 5 kg of organic fruit for 210 kr., and the OverskudsGrøntKasse has at least 4 kg of vegetables for 250 kr. Both are filled with produce the company has too much of, and both are delivered on Wednesdays. You can set several of these boxes up as a subscription. You can also add smaller items to an order, such as an apple bag, an avocado bag, Danish radishes, cucumbers and cress. Members of Aarstiderne Plus see a lower member price on every item. The trade-off is control. Seasonal and surplus boxes mean you take what is available, so you cannot count on getting specific fruit or vegetables each week. The site is in Danish and is aimed at Danish households, and it does not clearly state delivery areas up front. If you want organic, mostly local produce with the option to mix in meal kits and groceries, it is a dependable choice.
