BattlBox

What's in the box: A hand-picked assortment of outdoor and survival gear such as emergency supplies, tools, camp and hiking items, EDC gear and, on higher tiers, larger items and premium knives.

BattlBox is a US monthly subscription that sends a curated mix of outdoor, survival and everyday carry (EDC) gear. Ownership has changed twice in recent years: EMERGE Commerce bought it in October 2021 and sold it to Battlbrands Holdings in April 2023. It is still selling subscriptions. There are four tiers. Basic costs $39.99 a month and centres on manuals, emergency supplies and small tools. Advanced, at $69.99, adds camp equipment, hiking essentials, bushcraft and EDC items. Pro, at $124.99, can include larger pieces such as sleeping bags, backpacks, flashlights and tents. Pro Plus, at $174.99, leans on knife and tool brands such as TOPS, Kershaw, Spyderco, CRKT and Gerber. Each tier includes the items from the tiers below it, and shipping and handling are charged on top of every price. BattlBox publishes an average value figure for each tier that is higher than the price, but these are the company's own estimates, and value only counts if you will actually use the gear. Members also get a points scheme called BattlBucks, a member store with gear deals, and contests. Subscriptions can be changed or cancelled online. The main drawback is accumulation: a monthly stream of tools, knives and survival kit can pile up quickly, and the upper tiers are a serious recurring expense.
