Cairn has closed, and its website now shows an error page saying the store is unavailable. Cairn was a US subscription box for people who spend time outdoors, sending curated gear for hiking, camping and general adventuring. Outside Interactive bought the company in 2021, renamed it Outside Discovery Collection in May 2022, and shut it down later that year. While it ran, each shipment mixed small pieces of equipment, trail snacks, personal care items and other useful extras. Many came from smaller outdoor brands that shoppers might not have found on their own. Subscribers filled out a profile to shape what they received, and there was also a less frequent premium option built around higher end gear. The appeal was discovery: a steady supply of new products to try on weekend trips without researching each one. The downside, common to gear boxes, was that not every item suited every person, and duplicates of things you already owned could pile up. The service has closed, so there is nothing to order, and old links or gift cards should not be relied on. If you want something similar today, look for an outdoor box that is still shipping and has a working checkout, or build your own kit from retailers you trust.
