What's in the box: A shipment of Japanese matcha chosen by Kettl, though the site does not clearly state the quantity or how often it ships.

Kettl is a specialist importer of Japanese tea. Its matcha subscription, called New Horizons, is part of a much larger shop that also sells loose leaf tea, tea bags, ceramics, tea tools, incense and sweets. The company says it buys directly from growers and producers it visits several times a year. The site supports that with detailed producer profiles, such as tea master Shinya Yamaguchi in Yame, Fukuoka, and a map of fifteen Japanese growing regions. That focus on where the tea comes from is the main reason to choose Kettl over a generic matcha brand. The subscription starts from $38.00 and ships free within the USA. The front page does not say how much matcha comes in each shipment, how often boxes ship, or whether the selection rotates between producers, so check the product page before you sign up. Single tins such as the Tsubaki matcha at $45.00 show that Kettl sells at the premium end, so this is not a cheap daily latte supply. If you care about cultivar, region and who made your tea, it looks like one of the more credible matcha subscriptions in the US.
