PetrolBox

What's in the box: A hand-picked mix of tools, wearables, garage gear, detailing supplies, magazines, collectibles and coupons from automotive brands.

PetrolBox is a monthly subscription for DIY car enthusiasts more than for dedicated detailing hobbyists. Each box mixes tools, apparel, garage gear, detailing supplies, magazines, collectibles and coupons, so you get a broad sampler of car culture rather than a focused cleaning kit. There are two tiers: Basic, starting at $19.95, and Premium, starting at $39.95. The site does not clearly explain how the contents of the two tiers differ, so compare them before you choose. You pick your box and sizes when you sign up, which tells you apparel is a regular part of the mix. There is no contract and you can cancel at any time. If you sign up before the 15th, you still get that month's box. The surprise format is the main tradeoff. If you want specific detailing products for your own car, a mystery box will likely include some items you already own or won't use. The site's copyright notice still reads 2021, so check the brand's recent social posts to see current boxes before you subscribe. For a car lover who enjoys unboxing a grab bag of garage goodies, it is a reasonable pick with little commitment.
