The Baby Box Co. free box program is no longer operating, and its website no longer loads. A 2021 notice from a US hospital said its baby box supplier was no longer in business, so families should not expect to receive a box today. When it was running, the company paired its boxes with Baby Box University, an online education platform for expectant and new parents. Parents watched short lessons on topics such as safe sleep and newborn care, completed a brief quiz, and could then claim a free baby box through a participating program. The concept drew on Finland's long tradition of giving new parents a sturdy box that can serve as a baby's first sleep space. Several US states and hospitals partnered with the company to promote safe sleep, and access depended on where a family lived. The box was a cardboard bassinet with a firm mattress and fitted sheet, often packed with sample baby products. Families looking for something similar now should ask their hospital, pediatrician, or local health department about current safe sleep programs, and confirm that any sleep space meets current safety guidance. There is no way to sign up for this service now.
