The Locked Library

What's in the box: A newly chosen romantic fantasy or romance book each month, delivered in the brand's turquoise box.

The Locked Library is a UK book subscription focused on romantic fantasy and romance. It runs two main subscriptions: The Forbidden Wing, which covers romantic fantasy ranging from slow-burn to spicy, and Forever Yours, which leans into romance stories with a similar spread of heat levels. Each month a new book arrives in the company's signature turquoise box. Pricing is listed at £22 a month, or £20 a month if you pay quarterly. The catch is availability. Subscribing works through a waitlist, so you pick your box and payment plan, join the queue and wait to be contacted when a spot opens. If you want something to arrive next month, that may not suit you. Outside the subscriptions there is a shop with past boxes and categories such as fantasy, classics, cosy, horror, YA and historical, which offers a way in without waiting. The site does not clearly state shipping costs, delivery regions or exactly what extras come with each book, so check those details before signing up. Readers hoping for science fiction should note that the focus here is firmly on fantasy and romance rather than space opera or hard SF. For fans of romantic fantasy who like a monthly surprise and care about how their shelves look, it is a well-defined, niche option.
