What's in the box: A typical box held the craft supplies and instructions for one themed DIY project.

Whimseybox is no longer operating. It stopped shipping boxes in 2014 amid reported financial trouble and possible bankruptcy, and its website no longer loads. When it was running, it was a US monthly subscription for people who enjoy small craft and DIY projects. Each box was built around a themed project. It sent supplies and instructions so subscribers could make something at home without buying each material separately. The appeal was convenience and surprise, with a curated set of craft items arriving regularly and a clear idea of what to make. For beginners, that structure could make it easier to try a new craft. Experienced makers may have found the projects simple, and the fixed themes gave subscribers little control over what arrived. The closure matters most for anyone reading today. The site does not work, you cannot subscribe, and you should not expect any boxes to ship. Past subscribers with an unresolved order or charge are more likely to get help from their card issuer or bank than from the company. If you want something similar, look at craft subscription services that are still operating, and check their status, pricing and cancellation terms directly before signing up.
