Operation Gratitude

What's in the box: Packages typically pair handwritten letters of thanks from volunteers with practical comfort items, plus handmade goods like hats and scarves during seasonal drives.

Operation Gratitude is not a subscription box in the usual sense. You cannot sign up for a monthly delivery for yourself or pay to ship a box to one specific person. It is a long-running American nonprofit that turns donations and volunteer effort into care packages for deployed service members, veterans, first responders, and military families. The organization says it has been operating for more than 23 years and has delivered over 4 million packages. If you want to give, you can donate, write letters, join a community Assembly Day, help with nationwide delivery events, or use the Virtual FOB toolkits and letter templates to organize something locally. Seasonal drives, such as the Handmade With Love Holiday Challenge for knitted hats and scarves, give crafters a concrete project. If you serve, active duty personnel, veterans, and first responders can request care packages for a unit, station, or department. The main limitation is control. You do not choose what goes into a package or who receives it, and the site does not spell out contents or delivery schedules in detail. Requests are aimed at groups rather than individuals. If you want to send a personal box to someone you know, a commercial gift service will suit you better. If you simply want your support to reach people who serve, this is a well established and easy way to help.
